Mazao Achieve (Metarhizium 78)
Mazao Achieve (Real Metarhizium anisopliae 78) is a ubiquitous, insect killing fungus that comes from the soil. Targets pest mites such as spider mite (Tetranychus urticae) and T. evansii, without killing predatory mites, such as Phytoseiulus and Amblyseius. This isolate has also been shown to kill varroa mite, a parasite of bees. It does not kill bees.
Real Metarhizium 78 is formulated as pure spores in vegetable oil as well as a total fermented product. Regular use of Real Metarhizium 78 reduces excessive use of pesticides and helps manage chemical resistance. It is easily applied with conventional spray equipment.
In situations where you have to spray for downy mildew with non-compatible fungicides, and cannot use Phytoseiulus, a tank mix of the non-compatible fungicide with Metarhizium 78 (Achieve) will prevent the spider mite population from resurging.
Real Metarhizium 78 is a ‘contact’ biopesticide and application methods are critical to its success. Applying this product with too much water volume, will allow the biopesticide to ‘run-off’ the canopy hence leaving the pest without an effective dose to infect it.
if properly applied, the Real Metarhizium 78 spores contact the mite pest. The spore germinates and enters the pest mite’s body, where it multiplies thus killing it. Death will occur within 2 to 4 days, depending on the temperature.
Real Metarhizium 78 has been tested against many common beneficial parasitoids and predators without harm. This makes Metarhizium 78 an important control component where it can be combined with Phytoseiulus and Amblyseius andersoni in a red spider mite control programme.
A new formulation (spores in oil) is currently undergoing registration trials. Current registrations are for the total fermented product.
