Agri-Fi Kenya Challenge Fund

The aim of this project is to launch and promote Mazao Flourish to smallholder farmers. Through this project, farmers are benefiting on IPM (Integrated Pest Management) training as well as reduction of synthetic fertilizers, which diminishes the soil’s productivity when used excessively over time. This project is being executed in eight (8) counties; Kirinyaga, Kajiado, Machakos, Makueni, Loitoktok, Meru, Western region and Kiambu.

This is a three-year project funded by the European Union (EU); SlovakAid under the AgriFI Kenya Challenge Fund implemented by Self Help Africa.

Mazao Flourish is a mixture of beneficial microbes, which is used as a biofertilizer to promote plant growth and yield in horticultural crops. Mazao Flourish can be used alone as a replacement for conventional fertilizers or as a complement to an existing feeding regimen. It can reduces fertilizer input by up to 25% and increases yields by up to 30%.

We, together with our partners in the project, have successfully set up 107 permanent and temporary demonstration farms which are open for farmer’s visits. Through the demotrations and trainings, we have managed to reach and inculcate the use of Mazao Flourish and proper agricultural practises to over 6,800 farmers in all the selected regions.

Our target is to reach 9,000 small scale farmers across the country by the end of year 2022.
